UniFi 9.2+: Where Did the SSH Settings Go?

If you’re trying to locate SSH credentials in UniFi Network version 9.2.87 or later, you’re not alone. Ubiquiti recently reorganized parts of the UniFi interface, moving several key settings; including device SSH credentials, out of their previous locations.

This guide shows you exactly where to find them, and how to manage SSH settings for UniFi access points, switches, and gateways.

What Changed in UniFi 9.2.87?

As of version 9.2.87, Ubiquiti changed the layout of the UniFi Network Controller. Among the most notable updates:

“Moved Inform Host & Device SSH settings to the Devices Page.”

Previously, device SSH credentials were configured under Settings > System. That location is now deprecated for this function.

Where to Find Device SSH Credentials Now

To access SSH credentials for UniFi devices in version 9.2.87 or newer:

1. Log Into Your UniFi Controller

Access your UniFi Network application using a web browser.

2. Navigate to the Devices Page

Click the Devices tab from the left-hand navigation.

3. Click the Device Settings & Updates Icon

In the top right corner of the Devices page, look for the gear icon labeled Device Updates and Settings.

⚠️ Note: This is a new UI element introduced in 9.2.87.

4. Locate the SSH Settings Section

Inside the Device Updates and Settings panel, you’ll find:

  • SSH Credentials Management
  • Inform Host Override
  • Batch Firmware Updates for APs, Switches, and Gateways

This is now the centralized hub for configuring SSH usernames and passwords across your UniFi site.

Why SSH Settings Matter

Setting SSH credentials is important for tasks such as:

  • Manually adopting UniFi devices via CLI
  • Updating firmware via SCP/SSH
  • Factory resetting misbehaving devices
  • Diagnosing connectivity issues directly from the shell
  • Executing advanced commands for troubleshooting

Even in a cloud-managed network, SSH access is often critical during edge cases and advanced deployments.

Best Practices for SSH Credentials in UniFi

  • Use a strong password or SSH key authentication when possible.
  • Keep SSH disabled unless actively in use—especially in production environments.
  • Apply site-wide credentials consistently to simplify management.
  • Do not confuse UniFi OS SSH with device SSH. These are managed separately.

Troubleshooting: Can’t Find SSH Settings?

If you’re still not seeing SSH settings:

  • Make sure your UniFi controller is updated to 9.2.87 or later
  • Clear your browser cache or reload the UI
  • Try accessing the controller from another browser
  • Confirm you have admin privileges for the site or organization
  • Look for the gear icon on the Devices page, not in Settings > System

If you’re accustomed to managing SSH access the old way, this change may feel like a curveball—but it centralizes device-level tools into one interface and aligns with Ubiquiti’s direction for more streamlined management.
